Train

The closest Tohoku Shinkansen stations to the Towada Art Center are Shichinohe-Towada Station and Hachinohe Station. Buses run from both stations and arrive in front of the Towada Art Center.

From Hachinohe Station

  • Towada Kanko Dentetsu Bus
    • Take the Towada Kanko Dentetsu bus bound for Hommachi Higashi from bus stop 5 outside the East Exit of Hachinohe Station and get off at the Kanchogaidori bus stop (approximately 60 minutes). The art center is a 5-minute walk from the bus stop.
  • Towada Art Center Bus Pack
    • This coupon offers a discount on standard admission prices (permanent and exhibition set ticket) at the Towada Art Center and the return fare of the Towada Kanko Dentetsu bus.
    • Please be sure to receive the coupon from the driver when getting off the bus as it is not available at the art center.

Misawa Airport is the closest airport to the Towada Art Center, but central Towada is also accessible from Aomori Airport.

From Misawa Airport

    1. Take the Airport Shuttle Bus bound for Aomori Station from bus stop 2 outside of Aomori Airport and get off at Aomori Station (approximately 35 minutes).
    2. Take the Towada Kankou Dentetsu bus bound for Sanbongi Eigyo-sho from bus stop 10 outside of Aomori Station and get off at the Kanchogaidori bus stop (approximately 90 minutes). The art center is a 5-minute walk from the bus stop.

  • JR Ou Main Line & Tohoku Shinkansen
    • Take the JR Ou Main Line from Aomori Station and get off at Shin-Aomori Station (approximately 6 minutes).
    • Take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Shin-Aomori Station and get off at Shichinohe-Towada Station (approximately 15 minutes).
      • From there, follow the same directions as those in “From Shichinohe-Towada Station” in the Train section above.

From Tokyo & Morioka

  • Tohoku Expressway
    • Take the Tohoku Expressway to the Hachinohe Expressway to the Momoishi Toll Road. Get off at the Shimoda Momoishi Interchange (IC) and take Route 45 to Route 102. Stay on Route 102 for approximately 20km to reach the Towada Art Center.
      • Please note that the Towada Interchange (IC) on the Tohoku Expressway is not the closest interchange to the Towada Art Center.

From Akita

  • Akita Expressway
    • Take the Akita Expressway to the Kitakami Junction (JCT). Merge with the Tohoku Expressway and follow the same directions as those from Tokyo and Morioka.
  • From Akita City
    • Take Route 103 to Lake Towada, then turn onto Route 102 and drive through the Oirase Gorge to reach central Towada.
      • The Towada Art Center is approximately 45km from the Yasumiya area of Lake Towada.

From Aomori

  • Route 1

    • Take the Michinoku Toll Road to Route 4 and continue to central Towada.
      • The Towada Art Center is approximately 60km from central Aomori City.
  • Route 2

    • Take Route 103 or Prefectural Route 40 over the Hakkoda mountains to central Towada.

From Hirosaki

  • Route 1

    • Take the Tohoku Expressway to the Aomori Higashi Interchange (IC). Take the Michinoku Toll Road to Route 4 and continue to central Towada.
  • Route 2

    • Take Route 102 through Kuroishi. Turn onto Route 394 and continue past Jogakura Bridge and Sukayu Onsen. Turn onto Route 103 and continue into central Towada.

  1. Accessible Parking

    • Three standard-sized parking spaces are available behind the art center. These spaces cannot be reserved in advance.
    • These parking spaces are prioritized to accommodate those who require extra space for wheelchair access or those who have difficulty walking and require parking near the building.
    • General visitors may use Towada Nishi-nibancho Parking, a two-minute walk from the art center. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    • Two-minute walk from the art center.
    • Free parking tickets are distributed to paid art center visitors (normally 200 yen per car).
      • 98 parking spaces for cars available between May 3 and November 30, 2024.
      • 86 parking spaces (75 during winter) for cars available between December 1, 2024 and the 2025 Golden Week holidays (early-May).
    • Please note that the number of available spaces may vary in winter with snowfall conditions.
    • Please refrain from parking in reserved parking areas near Nishi-nibancho Parking.

Campers / Motorcycles

  • Please call the art center (TEL: 0176-20-1127) for details on camper/motorcycle parking.
  • Campers may hit the roof near the parking payment machine when leaving Nishi-nibancho Parking. Be sure to check the height of your camper before entering the parking lot.
  • The parking bar does not respond to motorcycles when entering the Nishi-nibancho parking lot.
