Art Square Access Limited to Accommodate Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay June 9 (Wed) – 12 (Sat), 2021

Access to the outdoor restrooms and other parts of the Towada Art Center Art Square will be partially restricted as detailed below.
We appreciate your understanding.

Restricted Artworks
KUSAMA Yayoi, Love Forever, Singing in Towada; Jaume PLENSA, EVEN SHETIA; inges idee, Ghost & Unknown Mass

– June 9 (Wed): Access to the works will be limited, and some areas will be off-limits due to torch relay preparations.
– June 10 (Thu) & 11 (Fri): The works will be fenced off and inaccessible throughout the day.
– June 12 (Sat): Due to relay cleanup, access to the artwork will be limited, and some areas will remain off-limits. Art Square will be accessible as usual after cleanup and removal.

*Access to Erwin WURM’s Fat House & Fat Car and R&Sie(n)’s Hypnotic Chamber will not be affected.

Parking Lot Limited to 4 Spots (Normally 10)

Due to construction, the parking lot located directly behind the Towada Art Center will be limited to 4 spots (including 1 disabled parking spot) beginning Monday, April 26, 2021.

Towada Art Center to Reopen June 9

The Towada Art Center, which has been temporarily closed since Saturday, April 11, will reopen on Tuesday, June 9. For the time being, only our permanent collection will be on display.
Upon reopening, we will take be taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The opening date for Inter+Play #001: Arts Towada 10th Anniversary Exhibition will be announced here on our website once it has been decided.

Temporary Closure of the Towada Art Center

The first case of an individual infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was confirmed in Towada on Thursday, April 9. Due to the unknown route of transmission as well as concerns about cluster infections and the severity of the illness, the Towada Art Center has decided to temporarily close Saturday, April 11 – Sunday, May 10, 2020. These dates are subject to change.

The opening dates for Inter+Play #001: Arts Towada 10th Anniversary Exhibition have changed accordingly. We will continue to update our website regarding the museum’s schedule after May 10, so please check back regularly. Our next official update is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, May 15, 2020.
